On 6 and 9 August, atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On 7 August, the Japanese announced the formation of a Preparatory Committee for Indonesian Independence(PPKI) to accelerate preparations for establishing an Indonesian government for the whole of the East Indies, not just Java.
